Obituary of George Albert Marks Jr.

George Albert Marks, Jr, 83, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018. He died peacefully at home with his wife of 61 years, Lieselotte, and their three children at his side. George was a decorated veteran having served nine years in the U.S. Air Force and was a Soldier’s Medal recipient. After completing his service in the Air Force he joined the U.S. Army. His time in the Army spanned twenty years, serving two tours in Vietnam; was awarded the Bronze Star Medal; and retired SFC U.S. Army. After completing his military career, George worked at Reynolds Metals (Williamsburg) where he was recognized as Truck Driver of the Year (numerous times) and was a Ryder Truck Driver Hall of Fame (Dallas, TX) Inductee. He was an avid car enthusiast, especially of the Ford Mustang, and was a member of the “Styling Stangs of Hampton Roads.” He loved restoring classic Mustangs, attending Car Shows and showing his own Mustangs as well. George is survived by his wife Lieselotte; sons Klaus-Peter Marks (Edith/Ebbie) of Williamsburg and Kurt E. Marks (Kristi) of West Virginia and Arizona; daughter Karin M. Armstrong (Thomas) of Oak Hill,VA; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Boyer, Mary Phiffer and Faith Rheinhart; two half sisters, June Crider and Frances (Sissy) Crider; brother, Samuel Marks; and half brother, Paul Crider. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Albert Marks, Sr. and Margaret T. Crider; brother, Raymond Marks; and sister, Julia McKee. A memorial service and family visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18 at the Nelsen Funeral Home – Williamsburg, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road Williamsburg, VA (757) 565-1141.
