IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

Gerald "Jerry" Trone, 84, of Williamsburg/JCC, passed away on January 28, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Harold Trone; and his brother, Larry Trone. Jerry was a computer systems architecture designer and had retired from Raytheon. He was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church. After high school, Jerry spent 4 years in the Air Force, serving in New York state, Europe, and Guam as a surveyor and mapmaker. He then attended Texas Lutheran University, graduating with a degree in Mathematics and Computing. He worked as a government contractor in Washington DC and Ft Huachuca, AZ. During this time, he also did graduate work in Mathematics at the University of Kansas. In 1981, Jerry left government service and took a job with Hughes Aircraft in their computer division (later Raytheon). Jerry's work as a systems architecture designer took him to the UK working on an air defense system, to Vancouver BC on an air traffic control system, and Detroit, MI on a communications system for one of GM's manufacturing divisions. Jerry retired in 1998 and moved to Williamsburg in 2002 where he enjoyed working on his computer, reading, fishing, participating in activities at St Stephen Lutheran Church, and singing with the Williamsburg Choral Guild. He even audited a class in Differential Equations at William and Mary - for fun! After two surgeries for spinal fusion in 2015, Jerry was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and was confined to a wheelchair. Jerry is survived by his spouse of 35 years, Marjorie Gottschalk-Trone; and his sisters, Jeris DeKievit (Tony) and Janis Hepburn. A service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 2:00pm at St Stephen Lutheran Church, 612 Jamestown Rd., with parking across the street in the William and Mary lot. Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsburg Choral Guild (https://www.williamsburgchoralguild.org/support/make-a-donation/) or St Stephen Lutheran Church (http://www.saintstephenlutheran.net/giving/).
