Harley Robert Beck, Jr., 89, of Newport News, passed away on March 12, 2018. Harley retired as a Master Sergeant after a 20-year career in the US Air Force, which included flying 50 missions as a gunner during the Korean War for which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Afterwards, he built the successful Karpetcare business in Williamsburg. He was a member of St. Bede Catholic Church.
His wife of 56 years, Agnes Beck and daughter, Lynda Farrell, precede him in death. Those left to cherish his memory are four children, Morgaine Mary Beck and her husband, Derek Sutton, Susan Szczepaniec and her husband Art, Julie Magruder and her husband David, and Stephen Beck and his wife Beverly; as well as 11 grandchildren, Kara Szczepaniec, Matthew Szczepaniec, Lindsay Potts, Ashley Kulbacki, Christian Magruder, April Foster, Austin Magruder, Nolan Farrell, Logan Farrell, Colton Beck and Kelsey Daswal; as well as 11 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. March 18 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA. A mass of the Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19 at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Rd., Williamsburg, VA. Interment will take place at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Dr., Williamsburg, VA, following the service.
