

India Smith Littleton age 75, died on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 after a prolonged illness. She was born in 1941 to J. Murray and Vivian Chandler Smith in Athens, GA. The family moved to N.C. in the 1950’s and India attended the University of N.C. in Greensboro graduating with a BA in English Lit in 1963. That same year she married her high school sweetheart Philip R. Littleton and worked as an administrations officer at N.C. Memorial Hospital while he was in medical school. After the birth of their two sons, she became a full time mom, and after they eventually settled in Fairfax County, she became active in volunteering, mostly in Cub Scouts and the school and public county libraries. After relocating to Ford’s Colony in 2001, she continued volunteering work at Colonial Williamsburg, United Way, and Meals on Wheels as long as her health allowed.
India loved travelling, cooking, entertaining, reading, puzzles of all kinds, and spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Morgan Chandler Littleton. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Phillip R. Littleton; sons, David Philip Littleton, partner Laura Cherry, John Chandler Littleton and wife ZIZI Littleton; grandchildren, Hank, Metha and Baby Cho; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of Greater Williamsburg, 227 Richmond Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185, or a charity of choice.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 1:00-3:00 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA, followed by a service at 3:00 pm. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.nelsencares.com.
