

He was born in Crellin, MD on April 12, 1937 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1961. Jack was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #757, The Tin Soldiers, and enjoyed camping, traveling, woodworking, crocheting and cooking. He retired from The College of William & Mary, Power Plant.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Olivia Phelps Naylor Mersing; parents, Ronalda Rose “Sue” Rinehart and James Robert Mersing, Sr.; and brother, James Robert Mersing, Jr.
Survivors include children, Sharon Elizabeth Mersing Henson Gauthier (Raymond) of Williamsburg, VA, Robert Singleton Mersing (Susan) of Neosho, MO and Rebecca Phelps Mersing Church (Scott) of Chino Valley, AZ; grandchildren, James Parker Henson (Rochelle), Nathan Wayne Gauthier (Jessie), April Rae Gauthier (Bryan Brown), Serenity Ashley Eddingfield Bristol (Jeremy), Heather Lee Mersing Ridenour, and Kayla Rose Mersing; great grandchildren, Parker Brian Henson, Scarlett Olivia Gauthier, Tucker Juede Gauthier, Adelyn Rae Voliva, William “Liam” Braxton Voliva, IV, Leighton Ashley Brown, Owen Walker Brown, Norah Jade Brown and Lucienne Jean Brown; siblings, Joyce Olive Mersing Hardman (Charles), Oron Rinehart Mersing (Karen Sue), Linda Catherine “Kay” Mersing Royce (Cecil), Donna Sue Mersing Ware (Gary), and Joyce Kay Mersing Rhoda.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 10th from 1:00PM-3:00PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA. The service will begin immediately afterwards at 3:00PM.
