Janice "Jan" K. Brune

Janice Klein Brune, age 81, of Williamsburg, VA, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on March 25, 2023. She is survived by her husband Barry A. Brune; her son Jeffrey A. Brune (Eileen Vo); her daughter Suzanne Brune Austin (Kenneth Austin); and three grandsons Brendan, Derek and Kyle Austin. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Tracy; her sister, Lanelle Klein; and her parents, Frank and Ione Klein. Jan was born in 1942 and grew up in Peru, Illinois. She left to attend Northwestern University where she majored in French. After college, she taught French and Spanish in Washington D.C. and then in Palo Alto, CA, where she and Barry married in 1964. They lived in five different states during their life together before discovering Williamsburg.

Jan enjoyed a variety of activities throughout her life, including tennis and golf, foreign languages, literary pursuits, and world travel. She frequently said her most important job was mothering her three children and she devoted herself to their development. Throughout that time, she always maintained a passion for educating others. Whether she was teaching or tutoring a foreign language, teaching English as a second language, tutoring elementary-aged children in reading, or preparing high school students for college entrance exams, Jan loved helping young minds develop.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 31, at 11am at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Online condolences may be shared at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
