Janice was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky on January 13th, 1950, to Fred Kemper and Peggy Brading. She is preceded in death by her mother Peggy Trich, her son Brian Hoffman, and her brother Thomas Trich and is survived by her husband Kenneth Hoffman, her daughter Jennifer (Billy) Butler, and her grandson Daly (Jessie) Hoffman. Janice completed her Master’s in Education at Indiana University before becoming a college professor, teaching composition and writing.
Aside from her love of teaching, Janice spent her free time writing poetry, having published several poetry chapbooks and a children’s book. She was a member of multiple poetry societies, namely the Poetry Society of Virginia, where she served for a time as the editor of their quarterly newsletter.
