Jean Garner Hendrix, age 96, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away on May 4, 2015. She was born in Keo, Arkansas on May 23, 1918, to Lizzie Smith Garner and George Garner.
She lived most of her life in Little Rock, Arkansas and moved to Williamsburg in 2002 to be near her son and his family. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Little Rock, for over 50 years and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher. She will be missed by the many new friends she made in Williamsburg where she was an active member of Walnut Hills Baptist Church and the Open Door Bible Study at Williamsburg Community Chapel .
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Estes Robert Hendrix; and her son, Robert Edward Hendrix.
Jean is survived by her grandchildren, Karen Thorpe Landon and Robert Edward Hendrix, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Katherine Thorpe Cline (Matthew), Madeline Thorpe, Reese Landon, Walker Hendrix and Olivia Hendrix; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Hendrix and her nieces, Cherry Rodgers, Bea Pike, Elizabeth Jacobson and Edith Smith; and many great nieces and nephews.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, May 7, from 12 to 1 pm, followed by a service at 1:00pm, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA.
Burial will be in Little Rock, Arkansas at a later date.
