Joan is survived by her husband, Dwight “Smitty” Smith; their three daughters, Sheri White, Traci Park, and Sandi Beaulieu (Fabrice); six grandchildren, Casey White, Addison White, Jesse Park, Wyatt Park, Enzo Beaulieu, and Naomi Beaulieu; three siblings, Gary Brooks (Minette), Sandra Fraebel and Ronnie Brooks; and a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Joan was a kind, strong, and thoughtful woman who will be sorely missed by so many. Her friends and family will always remember her quick wit and love of laughter. Joan enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, baking, and listening to classic country music and The Beatles. She was an expert at finding unique treasures at yard sales and flea markets with her sister, Sandra.
Joan worked incredibly hard and retired as a leader in the customer care industry, but her favorite job was being a grandmother! She loved the outdoors, especially the Shenandoah River and Blue Ridge Mountains where she created many lasting memories with her family. Family was so important to her. She worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, forgave them, and always kept on loving them—no matter what.
A private celebration of life gathering will be held on May 13th. Memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Shenandoah River https://fosr.org/join-us/join/.
