John served in the Navy Reserves and was called into action twice—first for the Korean War followed by the Cuban Missile Crisis. He received his undergraduate degree in finance and business from the University of Richmond, and later earned his MBA from the University of Wisconsin. John went on to work in finance for many years, bringing his family to Williamsburg in 1965. He retired as a VP (Vice President), affectionately known as Mr B. in the early ‘90s.
He loved exercise, especially running and biking. He coached his daughters in softball and even coached the bank softball team earning more than a few championship titles during tournament and regular season play. He also enjoyed gardening and bird watching with his wife. John and Pearl were avid University of Richmond football fans, even purchasing season tickets. John and Pearl were founding members of Walnut Hills Baptist Church where he served in the Choir and as a Deacon for as long as I can remember.
John is survived by his daughters, Sarah Tucker (John E. Tucker, Jr.), and Johanna Lane; grandchildren, Ryan Danielle Tucker, Eric Brahmer Tucker, Andrew Jordon Tucker, Jarren Wilson Tucker, Benjamin John Tucker, Evans Jackson Tucker, Nathan Elliot Tucker, Kevin Scott Lane, and Jason Taylor Lane; great-grandchildren, Ezra, Sylas, Lacy, Kaiden, and Paisley; and sister, Ethel Pantos.
A service will take place at 1:30pm on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Walnut Hills Baptist Church, 1014 Jamestown Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185, with interment at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
