John "Pat" Patrick Callaghan

October 31, 1926September 17, 2013

Pat Callaghan, 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. He was born on October 31, 1926, in Omaha, NE, to the late Dr. A.J. Callaghan and Margaret T. Callaghan. Pat Callaghan is survived by his wife, Judy, and their two daughters, Shawn and her husband, Arnold Diaz of Portchester, NY, and Reagan and her husband, Michael Hughes of Conway, SC. Additionally, there are four grandchildren, Alex Diaz, Shayna Diaz, Casey Diaz and Ryley Hughes. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. M.F. Callaghan of Laguna Nigel, CA. He was a graduate of Creighton Prep, Omaha, NE and the University of Iowa, where he played right halfback on the football team. He was a Marine Sergeant during WWII. Starting out in the stock room at F.W. Woolworth in Denver, CO, he worked his way up to the New York Headquarters as an executive in the Woolco/Woolworth division. He will be remembered for his love of gardening, golf and football, but mostly for the laughter and the light he brought into so many people’s lives. The Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Bede Catholic Church on Ironbound Rd. in Williamsburg at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 21. The family invites friends to a reception in the Commons immediately following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Williamsburg Public Library R.I.P.R.
