John graduated from St. Francis Prep High School, studied at St. John’s University and obtained a master’s degree in business from the University of Connecticut. He served in the Army National Guard for six years and worked in Computer Technology and International Marketing at Grolier, Inc. in Connecticut for 30 years.
John loved golf, traveling, and especially time with family and friends. Holiday celebrations, entertaining friends and family, and visits to the beach for time to relax by the water were some of his happy moments. He loved seeing his grandchildren play sports as his children had, and “Poppi” could be heard cheering for them louder than anyone.
John is survived by his wife, Virginia Degnan; his son, Timothy; his daughter Kathleen; his son-in-law Ted; and his grandchildren Dylan, Talon, and Annie.
John is also survived by two amazing families, his family by birth, with cousins who are very dear to him and also by his family through marriage who have been both family and friends. He died as he lived and was grateful for each person and each day in his life.
Visitation will be held at St Olaf Catholic Church, 104 Norge Ln, Williamsburg, on May 8, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 2:00 pm.
