

Joyce Royal Nichols Mahon, 94, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, surrounded by family. She was a source of warmth, wisdom and kindness to all who knew her.
Joyce was born July 26, 1931 in Covington, VA. She was the beloved daughter of James D. Nichols and Edith Royal Nichols. She spent her early years in Covington and Newport News, VA. Joyce attended Longwood Teachers College where she completed her medical technologist degree.
In 1953, she married Charles and they embarked on a journey with the US Air Force, living overseas in Japan and the Philippines as well as throughout the US including Iowa, Washington, Texas, Maryland, and Virginia.
She spent a lifetime helping others as a volunteer in the Girl Scouts of America, earning the Thanks Badge of Honor for her endeavors. She also volunteered at Sentara Hospital and served as a Deacon at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Charles B. Mahon. Joyce is survived by her children, Deb (Brad) Seaman, Katherine (Tracy) Norton and Chuck Mahon, 5 grandchildren, Jess (Kyle) Riggins, Rob (Mary) Schlegel, Andrew Schlegel, Alex (Amanda) Norton and Ashley (Dylan) Lien, and 3 great-grandchildren, Tripp, Margot and Lily.
Joyce was a long-time member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church and resided at the Williamsburg Landing where she had many friends.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, March 23 from 5 - 7 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. Her Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, March 24 at 10 am at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Rd., Williamsburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Parkinson Foundation, www.parkinson.org/.
