Obituary of Judith Lynn Colbert Casey

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

Judith Lynn Colbert Casey, 66, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully in her home on July 21, 2017, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Franklin Colbert and Ellen Vernon Colbert. Born and raised in Newport News, VA, Mrs. Casey was a graduate of Ferguson High School, where she was a model, stellar student, and gymnast. She moved to Williamsburg after marrying the love of her life, Art Casey, on 7-7-77 at 7:00PM. Her soul, body, and heart were effusive, vivacious, elegant, and the epitome of loving grace. She was the heart, soul, spirit, and essence of her family. She inspired love, produced compassion, and emoted joy and humility. Her laugh was contagious, and she was every stranger and every animal’s best friend. Her sons-in-law loved their wives more because she was their mother. She inspired them to be better men, and inspired her daughters to be better women. She inspired her son to be a better man, and, by example, taught all of her children to be better parents. Judy and Art’s decades-long love affair is one that everyone celebrates and longs to emulate: one that will last through all of time and space. Judy’s generosity was matched only by her husband’s - together, they always lent a hand, and anything else that they could give, freely sharing their lives and love with all. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Arthur Shawn Casey; beloved children Shawn Michael Casey and his partner Emily Coyner, Cadell Casey Lemis and her husband David Lemis, Tracy Lynn Casey Grieboski and her husband Joseph Grieboski, and Stacy Lynn Casey Hines and her husband Russell Hines; her grandchildren Miles Casey, Taylor Casey, Shawn Casey, Jr., Mason Casey, Cora Casey, Mikael Lemis, Patrick Lemis, and Baylon Hines, and her great-granddaughter Elizabeth Lynn Casey; and her brother, and dearest friend, James Colbert and his wife Edith Colbert. She will be remembered forever as a passionate and devoted mother, wife, and sister; the truest of friends; and a faithful servant of God. She honors her family and carries her dignity with her to her next place in Heaven. May God bless you, Judy, and please shine over us all. A viewing will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 25, from 6:00-8:00PM. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 26, at the Catholic Campus Ministry Chapel (Old St. Bede), 10 Harrison Ave., Williamsburg, VA. Pallbearers are James Colbert, Shawn Casey, Bruce Hitt, David Lemis, Russell Hines, and Joseph Grieboski. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
