Justin Lee McCarty

Justin Lee McCarty, 27, of Virginia, passed away January 5, 2019. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Susan Keith and maternal grandfather, Thomas M Wilson. Justin was born November 1, 1991 the son of Thomas and Lindica (Wilson) McCarty. He graduated from Goochland High School in 2010 then continued to Virginia Military Institute, where in 2014, he received a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. In addition to his coursework and Army ROTC responsibilities, Justin was on the Rugby team, Jiu Jitsu club and held rank as the 2nd Battalion S-4 Lieutenant and cadre. In May of 2014, he was commissioned into the US Army as a Military Policeman. Upon graduation of the Military Police Basic Officer Leader’s course, he was assigned to the 720th Police Battalion at Fort Hood from June 2015 to October 2018, where he served as Platoon Leader and Executive Officer for the 411th Military Police Company. In early November 2018, Justin was promoted to Captain. During his military service, he was honored with several awards and decorations, including the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. Justin is survived by his wife Rebecca McCarty; his father, Thomas McCarty; his mother and stepfather, Lindica and Timothy Merchent; sister and brother-in-law, Samantha and Jon Burrill; grandfather, Gerald Keith; aunt, Wendy McCarty; two uncles, Richard Keith and Michael Wilson; cousin, Rachel Perry; dear friends, ENS Brandon Conley and Olivia Stevens; close and dear family friend, Sharon Wilson; and LT, his beloved German Shepherd. He will also be missed by a host of beloved family members and friends. Services will be private.
