Lauren Halle Owens, 23, passed away on August 9, 2019. She was born in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania on May 23, 1996.

From a very young age Lauren’s dream was to be a veterinarian. Her love and compassion for animals was endless. She volunteered at veterinary practices during high school and worked as a Vet technician while attending Virginia Tech in pursuit of her dream. She rescued countless animals during her life but her dog Kaia held a special place in her heart. Her smile and sense of humor were infectious: it was impossible to be around her and not laugh. In life, she developed many skills where she excelled in both field hockey and lacrosse. However, art was her unknown talent that surpassed them all. Her use of shapes and symmetry would calm the mind and soothe the soul. When not at home, Lauren could be found spending the day at the beach or on a trail hiking with Kaia. She was a beloved daughter and sister whose memory will live on for eternity. Her smile, generosity and beauty, both inside and out, will forever reside in our hearts.

Lauren has been reunited with her grandparents, Ed and Marylin Schenk and Shirley Owens. She is survived by her parents Kim and Bruce Owens, her brother Mitch Owens, her grandfather Leon Owens, and a host of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins that will dearly miss her.

Services will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 24 at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 4897 Longhill Rd., Williamsburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in her memory be made to either the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185 or the Avalon Center, PO Box 6805, Williamsburg, VA 23188.

Dearest Kim, Bruce Mitch and Pop, my thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. My heart breaks for you, I remember sweet Lauren at the ball games and the first time I met her I thought she was so beautiful, and that infectious smile. I will cherish those memories always as I know you will. I am praying for all of you and asking God to wrap his arms around you and keep you in his loving care. He needed one more precious angel and when you look to the heavens there will be one more bright shining star. Love, hugs and prayers,God bless you all.

Dear Owens Family,

About a week has gone by and the news of Lauren’s passing hasn’t gotten any easier to fathom or accept. Even if we regretfully drifted apart recently, I will always treasure the several years I spent with Lauren. As one of my best friends throughout high school, Lauren was there for me through it all. We experienced our fair share of ups and downs, first loves and heartbreaks, WA basketball games, Owen’s sundaes, and a lot of life lessons together. Some days, her pep talks and positive text messages were the only things that got me through. I cannot express how much I appreciate getting to grow up with Lauren during the most challenging part of my life. I will never forget her unwavering support and ability to make anyone feel like her best friend. I wish more than anything I could go back and be there for her recently the way she was there for me in the past. She helped shape me into the person I am today and I cannot thank you all enough for sharing her with me over the years. Words cannot describe how much she will be missed.

I hope you guys are able to find some peace, knowing Lauren has found hers. I am praying and thinking of your family daily.

With love,
Olivia Chohany

Dear Owens Family,

I was so sad to hear the passing of Lauren. Our families have ties to each other and I also worked with her briefly at Opus 9. She was always fun to talk to when our shifts aligned. I’m thinking of you all and wish you patience and healing in the time ahead. I am sorry to miss her memorial service, but I will 100% be there in spirit.

Sincerely,
Hannah Pierce

To Lauren's family,

I had the privilege of working with Lauren a couple shifts as I am a relief LVT. The first shift we had together we immediately hit it off. She cared deeply about the patients and their owners and was a joy to work with. Even though we only had a couple shifts together Lauren left a lasting impression on me. I will carry part of her light with me always and am grateful for the very short time we spent together. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Such a talented athlete and lacrosse player. I think about Lauren and that special Rogue team we had often. I remember the unique way she cradled and how she always asked questions when she came out. She was sweet on the sideline and flipped the switch in the game. The best kind of player. I’m so sad to hear about this. I hope she is teaching all the kids up in heaven how to play. 🥍

Dearest Owens Family,
I worked with Lauren at Bay Beach Veterinary Emergency Hospital and just found out about Lauren’s loss. I am heartbroken to hear this. Lauren was wonderful to work with and had a passion for taking care of animals. Her patient care was always impressive and she was a sweetheart with such a sharp mind. The world is certainly a dimmer place without her light. I’m so very sorry.
