Lawrence Dennis Wasko, of Williamsburg, Va., passed away Nov. 12, 2018 in the comfort of his home. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., Larry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ann (Dowd) Wasko; his children, Mark Macatee (William), and Maura Beard (Kevin); his grandchildren Devon, Riley, Alexandra (Josh), and Alena; his great granddaughter Wyatt; as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Larry served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954, then earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1958 from Harpur College and Juris Doctor in 1963 from Georgetown University. He began his professional career with the Civil Aeronautics Board in Washington, D.C., before moving into private law practice in 1964. For nearly 50 years, Larry provided expert legal counsel in international trade and aviation for clients around the world. He served as an adjunct professor in International Business Diplomacy and as a committee member of the Landegger Program at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.
Larry also served on the Board of Trustees for the National Hospital for Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, and was a member of the Board of Directors for Virginia National Bank and First Commonwealth Bank. He was a talented artist who loved to draw and paint, with recent showings at This Century Art Gallery in Williamsburg, Va., and the Waterford Fair in Waterford, Va.
Visitation at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 104 Norge Ln, Williamsburg, Va., Saturday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m., followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra.
