

He was born in Rhode Island on March 5, 1945 to Madeline Ryder. Leo is survived by his loving wife, married for 59 years, Diana (DiBlasi) Morrissette; children, Denise (Morrissette) Simao, and Renee Morrissette; grandchildren, Jaqueline Morrissette, Justin Simao, Madeline (Hines) Waller and Tanna McCarron; and great-grandchildren, Camille Waller and Josephine Waller. He is also survived by his sister, Nanette, and her husband (Walter Petrush), and his brother Victor Martino his wife (Kathleen).
Leo joined the Navy in 1962. During his distinguished 31-year military career, Lieutenant Commander Morrissette served in the United States, Canada, Iceland and Europe. As a Submariner, his first Submarine was USS CUSK (SS 348) in Vietnam, where he qualified in Submarines in 1969. Additionally, he served aboard USS BAYA (SS 318), USS ANDREW JACKSON (SSBN619) and USS BERGALL (SSN667). LCDR Morrissette was in command of the Personnel Detachment in Naples, Italy. His final duty station was the Office of Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where he was honorably discharged and retired in 1993. Leo joined USSVI Groton Base on January 1, 2010, and upgraded to Life Member on March 6, 2012. Leo Morrissette was inducted into the prestigious Holland Club on June 1, 2019. He was also the Business Manager at Northrup Grumman Naval Weapons Station, retiring in 2021.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Presidential Citation with Palm. He will be remembered for his integrity, mentorship, curiosity, and the deep care he showed to his sailors, colleagues, friends, and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, Virginia, on March 5, 2026, at 3:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 104 Norge Lane, Williamsburg, Virginia, on March 6, 2026, at 10:00 am.
