

Williamsburg, VA - A Celebration of Life for Lynn Hook Hayden, age 97, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at First Lutheran Church, 1301 Colley Ave., Norfolk, VA. 23517. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Mrs. Hayden went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 20, 2025. Born in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Julian Hook and Annie Louise Davis Hook, Columbia, SC. She was a graduate of University of South Carolina with a BA in Elementary Education and of Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA with an MS in Early Childhood Education. She was an Elementary School teacher and Reading Development Specialist for over 32 years: in Columbia and Sumter, South Carolina; in Portsmouth, Virginia at Churchland Elementary; in Birmingham Alabama at Shades Mountain and Elyton Elementary schools; in Mobile, Alabama at St. Paul's Episcopal School; and again, in Virginia at Norfolk Academy and Mary Calcott Elementary in Norfolk. Then she taught for Department of Defense School system for eight years at Spangdahlem Air Force Base, Germany, until her retirement.
Mrs. Hayden was a member of Chi Omega Sorority at the University of South Carolina and Cap-N-Gown at Old Dominion University. She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church, Norfolk and loved by those in Martha and Lydia Circles. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, AK Chapter, VA for many years and served as their President 2000-2001.
Mrs. Hayden immensely enjoyed time with her family, reading, camping, antiquing, sailing, and fishing.
Her loving husband of 62 years, Augustus H. Hayden IV, preceded her in death.
Surviving her are her three sons, Augustus H. Hayden V, Colonel (Retired) Mitchell Hayden (Dee), and Jonathan Hayden; grandchildren, Christina Hayden, Marylynn Hayden Omara (Jon), Melissa Hayden Eddings (Nick), and Bryan Hayden; step-grandchildren, Bryan Dreyer and Scott Dreyer; great grandchildren Evelynn, Jacob, Finn, Hayden, and Liam; cousin, Frank Treadwell Davis Jr (Winifred); nephews, Charles Hayden and Heartwell Hayden; and nieces Susan Ryan and Lauri Ann Hooks.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living, Williamsburg, Mid Atlantic Long Term Care, Norfolk, and At Home Care and Hospice Care, Williamsburg, for their loving and compassionate care; and staff and members of First Lutheran Church, Norfolk, First Baptist Church, Newport News, and Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown, for loving support and uplifting prayers.
