Margaret was born in Valley Mills, WV. She was the youngest child of Jack and Olive Boley. When she was in the third grade, she met her life’s one-and-only sweetheart, David A. Barley. David and Margaret graduated from St. Marys High School together in 1960, and were married in 1963. Margaret supported David through school at the College of William and Mary, West Virginia University and Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine. In 1970, they settled in Williamsburg, VA with their two young children, Melissa and David. After her husband's passing, Margaret lived in Charlotte, NC with her daughter and family before returning to Williamsburg, VA in December to live with her son and family.
Margaret and David owned Agape Animal Care for many years. They were charter members of Wellspring United Methodist Church and were both active in community organizations. Margaret was the first president of the Williamsburg Jaycettes.
Margaret was, by nature, a modest but generous person. She occasionally offered her home to folks who needed some time to get back on their feet. She hosted high school foreign exchange students from Indonesia and South Africa. She welcomed all manner of interesting injured, sick, and castaway animals into her house over the years.
Margaret enjoyed spending time with family, sewing, gardening, reading, discussing politics, and shopping with QVC.
She is survived by her daughter and wife, Melissa and Ricki Barley of Charlotte, NC, and their children, Andrew and Abby; a son and wife, Dr. David R. and Krista Barley of Williamsburg, VA, and their children Katey, Kelley and Luke; a brother and wife, Jack and Donna Boley; and a brother, Roy Brammer.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, David, their twin infant sons, Jeffrey and Richard Barley; and her parents, Jack and Olive Boley.
The family will receive family and friends at Wellspring United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 17 from 3:00 pm until time of memorial service at 4:00 p.m., Rev. Jay Hanke, officiant. Nelsen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
