

Marie Ann (Phalor) Ims (Age 81) of Williamsburg, VA, beloved wife to Don E. Couser for 23 years died early in the morning of November 23, 2015. She was the daughter of Carl and Bernice Phalor and is survived by her sister Margret Barnhart; her children, John Ims, Valerie Cullinan, and Lisa Schmidt; and her 7 grandchildren, Natalie Hamilton (Schmidt), Rachael and Leslie Schmidt, Jeremy and Jessica Ims, Michael and Megan Cullinan.
Marie was born in Columbus, OH, and was originally married to Charles Ims for 22 years. Marie tutored children at the Shriner’s Hospital in Cincinnati before returning to college at age 38. Marie received her undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati and her Master’s of Social Work from the University of Louisville. She was employed for 32 years in Cincinnati in positions including a clinical therapist, a department head in community mental health, a therapist in adult outpatient care and as a therapist in the TriHealth EAP outpatient program. She and Don moved to Williamsburg in 2008 and became a tutor in the adult literacy program at William and Mary College and became active with the home owners association for Braemar Creek, the Unitarian Universalists Church, and the Williamsburg Senior Center.
