Melvin Walton Lewis, 88, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2018. He was born December 4, 1929 in South Boston, VA to Bernard Lee and Irene Hortense Halton Lewis. His parents and his brothers, Clyde and Berkley Lewis, preceded him in death.
Melvin served in the Army from 27 Sept 1951 until 15 Aug 1953, serving in the Second Army area in Korea. Following his military service, he worked for Life of Virginia Insurance Company from the 1950’s until his retirement. In early retirement, Melvin was active in the Williamsburg Lions Club and enjoyed spending time in Colonial Williamsburg.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Chambers and husband, John; son, Kenneth Lewis Sr.; grandchildren, Meredith, Kristina, and Kenny Lee; and three great-grandchildren, Kourtney, Easton, and Rylee.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 22 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. Services will begin at Nelsen Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 23 at 1:00 PM, with interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
