

Born March 13, 1949 in Rahway, NJ to Michael and Anna Hrabar, Michaelene graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1967 and earned her Bachelor of Arts from Newark State College in 1971.
She married George in 1970 and together they raised three daughters in their home in Port Reading, NJ.
She began her teaching career in 1971 with the Woodbridge Township School District in New Jersey as a high school math teacher. She also advised the color guard during her time at Woodbridge High School where she was affectionately known as “Mom Mirk.” Teaching was her passion which she continued to do after her retirement to Virginia, becoming a long-term substitute teacher in the James City County School District as well as a volunteer tutor.
Michaelene and George retired to Toano, Virginia in 2006 within the Stonehouse community. She was an active member of St. Olaf Catholic Church in Norge, Virginia serving as an Eucharistic Minister as well as an active member of the local YMCA.
Michaelene loved to sew and cross-stitch and even made her daughter’s prom dress. Her passion was baking and she was famous for her breads at Easter and Christmas that she shared with family and friends.
Michaelene loved to help others and she portrayed that in the way she lived her life through her teaching, faith, friendships and her family. Her light will shine through those that she had the chance to spend time with.
Michaelene is preceded in death by her beloved husband, George; her parents, Michael and Anna; and her sister, Annette David. She is survived by her daughters, Melissa Mirkovich (James Saad) of The Villages, FL, Meagan Mirkovich (Kevin Connolly) of Midlothian, VA, and Monica McVehil (Michael) of Shelton, CT; her sister-in-law, Linda Stadler (Ronald) of Piscataway, NJ; and nephew and nieces.
Visitation will be held at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA on Tuesday, May 5 from 5-7 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 104 Norge Lane, Williamsburg, VA on Wednesday, May 6 at 11 AM.
