Nena was born in Fulton County, Pennsylvania, near Hancock, MD. She was the second oldest of the five daughters her parents, Erby and Flora Booth had. She was raised on their farm attending a one room schoolhouse for her primary school education. Nena graduated from Hancock High, at 15 and went on to Business College in Hagerstown, MD.
Nena married Russell Clark in 1946, a Capt. in the US Army. She joined him in Vienna, Austria a few months later, and for 21 years they traveled the world together with tours of duty in Japan, France, and Germany. They retired to Miramar, Florida in 1967. Russell passed in 1982.
Nena moved to Williamsburg, VA in 1989 sharing her later years with her companion, and dear friend Jack Ferrell who passed in 2020. They were active members of the VFW where Nena was the Chaplain of the Women’s Auxiliary for several years. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Williamsburg volunteering weekly at Chambrel, (now Brookdale) and the Williamsburg nursing home doing manicures. Nena also visited the Hampton VAMC monthly; specifically visiting our paraplegic veterans. She played bingo with them, took her homemade pimento sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies. Nena loved having her family, especially her grandsons and friends in her home to enjoy a home cooked meal and delicious desserts!
She is survived by her only child, Patricia Tabb, and son in law Michael Tabb; two grandsons--Clark and his wife, Amber, and two great grandchildren; Patrick and his wife, Meagan, and youngest sister, Pat.
Her daughter, Tricia is so grateful for the kind care Nena received from the Cottage Care Team, of Spring Arbor of Williamsburg during her last years of life. The gift of Nena’s smile will be missed by everyone!
Donations in her memory may be made to: Hampton VAMC (Veteran’s Administration Medical Center), 100 Emancipation Drive, Building 52, Hampton, Virginia 23667. Checks with Nena’s name and account #1399 Rec Therapy or #1390 for special activities, both will go directly to help patient needs. Thank you!
A Celebration of Nena’s life will be held in Northern Virginia, at Truro Anglican Church, Fairfax City on September 17th, at 1pm in the Historic Chapel. Private Interment on Sunday, at Damascus Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery, Pennsylvania.
