

He was born in Suffern, New York on June 6, 1941 and was preceded in death by his parents, Rolland and Ione; and two brothers, Rolland and LeVere.
He served in the US Naval Reserves. He later received his Master's Degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and went on to become the Vice President of Lucent Technologies.
He was an Elder at Cape May Presbyterian Church, Elder and Clerk at Jamestown Presbyterian Church and Member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Niels was also the past Master of Ramapo Lodge # 589 F.&A.M., Captain of the Ramapo Ambulance Corp, Commissioner of the Delaware River and Bay Authority, Vice Chairman of the New Jersey Council for the Arts, Deputy Mayor and President of City Council of the City of Cape May, Founder and Captain of the Cape May Fire Police. For the past five years, he volunteered with the James City County Police Department and with the Sentara Williamsburg Medical Center.
Along with his wife Liz, Niels owned and operated Canterbury Cottage Bed and Breakfast and Canterbury Manor Guest Apartments. He enjoyed traveling with Liz and had the pleasure of working and living abroad in Hong Kong and Singapore for four years.
His greatest pleasure was spending time and sharing laughs with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Niels is survived by wife, Elizabeth L. Favre; sons, Scott Favre (Christina), Ed Favre (Regina), and Brian Favre (Denise); grandchildren, Brett, Winter, Erin, Eric, Kaiden, and Brayden; great-grandchildren, Aurora and Azura; and beloved pet, Willi.
A service for Niels will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, Virginia.
