
Orris Browne “O.B.” James, Jr. died on September 12, 2023. He was preceded in death earlier this year by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Winn James. O.B. was the son of the late Orris Browne James and Emma Richardson James. He is survived by his children, Ned (Liz) James and Sarah (John) Burleson. Also surviving him are three grandchildren, Anne and Evan James, and Emma Burleson.
O.B was born on June 12, 1929 in Norfolk. He graduated from Maury High School and attended Webb Institute of Naval Architecture. When the Korean War started, O.B. left Webb and enlisted in the Navy, serving for four years as a Radarman First Class. He then entered the University of Richmond, graduating with a degree in finance. He spent the next nine years as a stockbroker before switching over to banking. He spent the remainder of his career at banks in Norfolk, Charlottesville, and Richmond that are now part of Truist.
After retirement, he was active in his residential community in Williamsburg, as treasurer of Governor’s Land Foundation and as President of Two Rivers Country Club.
He will be interred at Freemason Street Baptist Church in Norfolk at a later date.
