Dear Carolyn, I am so very sorry to learn about your great loss.  I have been thinking about you lately and our friendship so long ago, so decided to google you and came upon the obituary of Dutch.
Such a fine, admirable man!!!  My friendship with you began in 1958 (when our husbands were stationed at Ft. Polk Louisiana), and continued at Fort Knox Kentucky.  Then were were all in Germany.  After that we all went different ways, but somehow (I can't remember how) I found you in Crewe, Virginia in around 1985.  I had been a single parent in Williamsburg for a few years and then  married Bob King in 1984 and came to Richmond.  I am sorry that we never got together as you were such a wonderful friend.  I have never forgotten the precious white sweater and cap you knit for Kirk when he was born at Fort Knox, KY in 1959.  Please know I have been thinking of you and hold you in my thoughts and prayers, especially for this new phase of your life.  Widowhood is HARD. Otto Beckhoff was without a doubt the best Grandfather i couldve ever asked for. We spent every night fishing, doing homework together or just casually chatting about his life experiences. He used to call them his "fireside chats" in reference to FDR...  i love and miss you Opa. Not a day goes by that i dont think about you and remember all of the times we had. I still remember your promise about looking over me after you passed. Ive held you to it. :) fly high. 

Thank you for including LTC Beckhoff in the MOAA memorial page. I had the pleasure of working under him in Berlin.  He was a great man and I never saw a better problem solver. I owe a lot to him.  Blessings to the Beckhoff family.LTC Earl T. Garrett

Dear Carolyn, It seems almost daily that another member of AGOCC-63 leaves us. Dutch was a fine officer and a good friend. I will miss him immensely as, I'm sure every other member of our class will.

Dutch was a wonderful, kind, fun person to work for and with (WJCCPS Personnel) and as the coach of the Educators volleyball team.  We had many laughs and good times. We all will miss that gleaming smile in your eyes.

The Henegar family send our condolences to Carolyn and all of Dutch's family.  We are saddened to learn of his death and have Carolyn and all the family in our prayers.  Dutch and Bill (Howard) were classmates at the Army Career Officers Class of 1963 and Bill has many precious memories of their friendship.  May God welcome Dutch into Heaven's family and hold Carolyn in the palm of His hand.

Dutch was the best friend I had during our Army days. We first met serving at Fort Harrison in Indiana, and later served together in Viet Nam. His passing is a great loss though the memory of our friendship, and the wonderful reunion of our military career course in 1979 will always be among my most cherished recollections.

I knew Dutch from Kiwanis and being in the choir at St. Bede, I would see you both in the congregation at Mass on Sundays. He and I volunteered to be part of the clean up crew when Kiwanis was sponsoring the Polo fundraisers at Shirley Plantation. We always would have a good laugh when we cleared an area where the partygoers were outraged that the party was over. He was very unruffled but focused that we were there for a purpose. I knew Dutch through Kiwanis and the common origin of Ohio. We always had good conversation and he will be missed.

I was so saddened by the passing of Dutch.  I had the honor of working with him in the Personnel Office for the WJCC Public Schools.  He was a wonderful boss and I have many fond memories of him.  He will be missed by all.

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Dutch for many years.  I played on his volleyball team for several of those years.  He was a great competitor and teammate.  I also worked with him in the WJCC Schools.  He was our Director of Personnel and fellow member of the Superintendent's Cabinet.  He was always upbeat and insightful and truly cared for the employees in the division.  He was quick to say, "another day in which to excel".  Dutch was a good man and a great example for others.  I value the time I spent with him.

Tom and I were saddened to read in the Blade of Dutch passing.  We are so sorry to hear of your loss.  Know you Carolyn, as well as all of your family, will miss him greatly.

With fond memories we remember Dutch and Carolyn as fun neighbors and valued friends.  Too much fun at dancing lessons and walking in the snow in First Colony.

The best memory I have of Dutch was from my first Kiwanis board meeting. He held a seat out for me and said to join in. Being one of the youngest members of the club and our board I treasured that someone welcomed me in, even as I arrived late. I will never forget the twinkle in his eye as he watched me take in everything our club stands for. I know Dutch will continue to watch over our club and I will be looking to my left at our next meeting thinking of him!

As you already know, I'm in Sarasota among my longtime circus friends this weekend. Miss being with you but Ann tells that our wonderful neighbors are there for support and attention. May be rest in peace and arise in glory.

I was so said to hear the news of Mr Bechoffs passing. I have many happy memories gowning up next door to the family in First Colony.  I will never forget the fun I had one summer when I help him build a shed at his house.  The last time we saw each other he still talked about how the shed was still there.  He was a great man and will be missed.  My condolences to the family for your loss.

Dutch was one-of-a-kind human being.  The likes of him will never again walk this earth.  I and all of his colleagues in the WJCCPS will always treasure the time we had with him.  I will miss him very much.

Dutch was a very loyal Theta Chi fraternity member at the University of Toledo when I was initiated into the Active Chapter in 1953.  I loved his sense of humor and his loyalty to his family and country.  I will miss him very much.

My mother Marjorie Hartkopf told me of your loss and I wanted to send my condolences to your family. I know that he and my father were friends long ago- he was actually one of the last people to visit my father before he passed away.I also remember visiting your family in Germany when you lived on a base. Those friendships from the German immigrants in Toledo were strong- the Beckhoffs, the Hartkopfs, the Carls, etc. They worked hard, had fun, and paved the way for future generations.
