Pamela White New, 65, of Williamsburg, Virginia, entered eternal life with the Lord on January 7, 2026. Pam was a beloved wife, mother, “Memaw”, sister, and friend - known most of all for the deep, steady love she gave so freely to everyone around her.
Pam was born on August 4, 1960, in Germany to the late Wendell White, Jr. and Patricia Davis White. As the daughter of a military serviceman, her early years were shaped by family, resilience, and a sense of purpose. The White family eventually settled in Middlesex, Virginia, where Pam’s life truly took root and where she would meet the love of her life, William “Bill” W. New, Jr. High school sweethearts, their love spanned more than 50 years. They were married on August 11, 1979, and shared over 46 years of a devoted marriage.
Service to others was woven into Pam’s life. Inspired by her upbringing and guided by a compassionate heart, she dedicated her career to nursing. As a registered nurse, Pam lovingly served the Williamsburg community for decades, most notably in Labor and Delivery at the former Williamsburg Community Hospital and later at Sentara Williamsburg. She had the rare gift of making others feel safe and cared for during life’s most meaningful moments. Pam stayed in touch with many of the babies she helped bring into the world and their families, cherishing those lifelong connections. Though she remained humble, her colleagues frequently spoke of her remarkable skill, calm presence, and deep knowledge, qualities that made her both respected and adored.
Outside of work, Pam found joy in the quieter moments. She loved to read and could always be counted on to cheer for Duke basketball. But nothing brought her more pride or happiness than her five grandchildren. Pam treasured every photo sent her way, and no visit to her home was complete without sitting together on the couch, surrounded by pictures of the grandchildren she loved so dearly.
Above all else, Pam leaves behind a legacy rich in love.
Love for her husband, Bill.
Love for her children, Laura Voss (Michael), William W. New, III (Sondra), and Adam.
Love for her grandchildren - James, Jillian, Lucas, Olivia, and Scarlett - who were the light of her life.
Love for her sisters, Cynthia White (Jerry Caplinger) and Beverly White (Christine Dosmann).
And love for countless nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, coworkers, and all those whose lives she touched.
A service celebrating Pam’s life will be held on Saturday, January 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3875 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Visitation will follow from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pam’s memory to the Avalon Center of Williamsburg.
