Phyllis Harden Jennings, age 94, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Martinsburg, West Virginia, to Calvin and Geneva Hovermale Harden, Phyllis lived a life rooted in faith, service, and devotion to those she cherished.
A proud graduate of James Madison University, Phyllis earned her Bachelor of Arts degree and carried her passion for learning into every chapter of her life. She was a dedicated homemaker whose warmth extended far beyond her household. Her volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, Master Gardeners, and APVA (Jamestown) reflected her deep commitment to community care. She was also a faithful member of Bruton Parish Church, where her presence was a quiet but steady source of grace.
Phyllis found joy in gardening, birdwatching, and the beauty of nature. She was a Master Gardener and active in organizations such as Colonial Williamsburg and Hospice House. Her greatest happiness came from time spent with her family and traveling with her beloved husband, Roy Hutson Jennings, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children: William Bradford Jennings, Brian Hutson Jennings, and Susan Jennings Bethoney (Joseph). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Graham Jennings, Ryan Bethoney, Sonia Jennings, Drew Bethoney, and her great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Bethoney. Phyllis is also predeceased by her brother, Edward Harden.
Her life was a testament to quiet strength, enduring love, and the beauty of a well-tended garden—both literal and metaphorical. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
