Robert M. Berg (Ph.D.), Lt. Col., USAF, Ret., died peacefully on September 6, 2018 in Williamsburg, VA. Bob was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He graduated from South Dakota State University (BSME) and The Ohio State University (MBA and Ph.D.). He served his country for over 21 years as an Air Force Officer. In his second career, he worked as a Project Director at the Center for Naval Analyses (The CNA Corp) in Alexandria, VA.
Bob held leadership positions in many civic and community organizations. He was a Boy Scout leader, a tutor and mentor for science and math students, an ombudsman, and Commodore of the Naval Postgraduate School Sailing Association.
In his retirement, he enjoyed reading, golfing, taking Christopher Wren classes at the College of William and Mary, sailing the historic ships at Jamestown, participating in many Ford’s Colony clubs and taking trips to places steeped in history.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, Jeff (Beth), Chris (Karen), and Lisa (Rodger Melchiori); his grandchildren, Erin (Taylor Oakley), Heather, Eric, Emily, Elizabeth, Jorgen (Jessica), Kari (Thomas Rice), Kristina, Kelsey, Robert, Kristen, Matthew, and great-grandson, Jonas. He was preceded in death by his son, Jon (Connie). He leaves behind a host of loving relatives and extraordinary friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on October 6, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA.
