Robert M. Kennell

He was the son of the late Gaither Levi Kennell and Earleen Cosby Kennell of Newport News, VA.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol McGuire Kennell and two sons, Timothy McGuire Kennell (Deborah) of Cumberland, VA and Robert Matthew Kennell (Kimberly) of Chapin, SC, 4 Grandchildren, Christopher Kennell (Crystal) of Richmond, VA, Sarah Church (Karl) of Cumberland, VA, Elizabeth Kennell of Clemson, SC, and Emily Kennell of Spartanburg, SC, and Great Grandchildren Zara Church and Dustin Church of Cumberland, VA and Ryan Kennell of Richmond, VA. He was predeceased by an infant son David Christopher of Hampton, VA and brothers Gaither L Kennell Jr and William C Kennell of Newport News, VA. Bob Kennell was a devoted husband, father, and friend to everyone who knew him.

He was born in Newport News, VA, and attended public schools in Newport News and Wilmington, NC before graduating from Hampton High School in 1951, where he excelled in track and basketball. He then attended Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School before attending Wofford College and the University of Richmond where he studied business before being drafted into the U.S. Army where he was honorably discharged after serving in Germany after two years. After the Army, he worked for Allstate Insurance Company for 42 years as a Senior Account Agent in Newport News and Hampton, VA until his retirement. Bob was an avid Golfer, Boater, and Fisherman where he had many good times with his family and friends on the "Salty Dog", and was very active in the Mercury 64 Kiwanis Club where he served as President and earned the George F Hixson Fellow. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias for several years in Poquoson, VA. He was a godly man who was very active at Wesley United Methodist Church in Hampton, VA serving as Lay Leader and Chairman of the Administrative Board before moving to Williamsburg where he is a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church.
