Ronald Reed Mitchell

Growing up in a military family, Ron had the privilege of living in a lot of interesting places, like Japan, but was born and raised in Hampton, VA where he attended Kecoughtan High School before going on to Old Dominion University. He spent 20 years working at Newport News Shipbuilding, building a career grounded in hard work and dedication. Later in life, he pursued a new passion, opening and running his own coffee shop, where his warmth and easy charm made him a familiar and beloved face to his customers. Finally, he ran and operated Champion Putting Greens, a custom golf putting green installation business.

A lifelong athlete, Ronald excelled in baseball, softball, and soccer, but golf held a special place in his heart above all else — he could often be found on the course, chasing the perfect round. In his younger years, he loved the water, spending countless hours water skiing and boating, always happiest outdoors and in motion.

Those who knew Ronald remember him as a kind-hearted and gentle soul — easygoing, warm, and quick to make others feel at ease. His humor, patience, and generous spirit touched everyone who crossed his path.

Ronald is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; his son, Andrew; his daughter-in-law, Heather; his daughter, Eileen; his son-in-law, Michael; his sister, Rebecca; his brother-in-law, Bill; and his grandchildren, Liam and Emma.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
