She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Beard; her parents, David and Bedie Blackburn; and her brothers, Rufus, Fred, and Marvin Blackburn.
Ruby will be missed by her three daughters, Vickie Beard of Williamsburg, Debbie Hite of Williamsburg, and Rhonda Atkins of Williamsburg; her grandchildren, Ronnie Morin of Williamsburg, Michael Cross of Ft. Worth, TX, and Deanna Hite of Williamsburg; and her great-grandchildren, Faith Rivers of Williamsburg, Caleb Chilton of Williamsburg, Jakob Dudney of Williamsburg, Kayleigh Morin of Pennsylvania, and Desiree Morin of Pennsylvania.
Ruby loved spending time with her family, sharing stories and life’s lessons with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and family celebrations – which there were plenty of because we celebrate everything! She also loved going out to eat. There probably wasn’t a restaurant in Williamsburg she hadn’t dined in. For many years, she and her friend Illa would send out weekly mailings to their Walnut Hills Baptist Church family members who could not make it to church.
Ruby enjoyed sewing, puzzles, both crossword and word puzzles, and gardening. An avid Washington Nationals fan through thick and thin, she also loved watching baseball and was thrilled she was able to see her team win a World Series.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 20 at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Dr., Williamsburg.
We want to thank the Memory Care Staff at Commonwealth Senior Living for the wonderful care and compassion they provided to mom and her family during her final months. They are a special group of people that we will never forget. Thank you to At Home Hospice Care for all of their care and support, as well as Williamsburg Landing Adult Day Care for their many months of caring for mom and their support.
