Born on February 23, 1959, in England, Sharon graduated from Bethel High School in Hampton, Virginia, in 1976. She attended Riverside Medical Laboratory Technician School. While furthering her education at Thomas Nelson, she met the love of her life Michael O’Neal in Chemistry lab class. He saw her in the back of the room when choosing a seat beside her, and from that moment, everything changed. Sharon went home that day and told her mother she was in love and had met the man she was going to marry. Just six months later, they were married, beginning a beautiful love story that would have celebrated 46 years together this year.
Sharon loved NASCAR, Camping, spending time at the beach, and, above all else, her family. She was an active member of both the Junior Woman’s Club and the Woman’s Club for more than ten years, serving as Club President for two years. She also dedicated two years as PTA President at Jamestown High School.
Sharon never met a stranger. She welcomed everyone with kindness, warmth, and a genuine smile. Her generous spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering love for family and friends touched countless lives and will be remembered always.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael O’Neal; her mother, Julie Northway; her children, Jeffrey O’Neal (Abby), Stacey Hughes (John), and Sean O’Neal (Kimberlee); her cherished grandchildren, Kendal, William, Corbin, Sadie, Hazel, Bodhi, Koa, and Lucy; and her brother, Michael Northway (Michelle).
She was preceded in death by her father, William Northway.
A memorial service celebrating Sharon’s life will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg.
Sharon’s love, laughter, and generous heart will live on in the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever loved
