Dr. Sofija Alis passed away on September 16, 2014. A WWII survivor, Sofija escaped with her husband from Lithuania and then Germany due to Russian and Nazi regime occupations. They immigrated to the United States in the mid 1940’s. Both continued their war interrupted studies in the medical field. While her husband received his doctorate degree in Veterinary Science, Sofija received her degree in dentistry, where she taught at the University of Connecticut in Farmington.
She will be remembered by her love of people, her love of family, her love of animals, her love of dentistry, and her love of Christ as her personal savior. Her last wish would be to consider the true meaning of John 3:16 to all who have not heard of Christ and the sacrifices and promises of eternal life he has made to all who will receive him with their hearts as she did.
Sofija was preceded in death by her husband, Izidorius. She is survived by her daughter, Yolanda; her son, Roman; her daughter-in-law, Susan; her grandchildren, Roman Jr. and Mackenzie; her sister, Jadvyga; and her nephew, Linus Vytuvis.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 27 at the Williamsburg Community Chapel, 3899 John Tyler Highway, Williamsburg, VA.
In lieu of flowers, Sofija’s wish was to make any memorial contributions to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Rd., Williamsburg VA 23188. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.nelsencares.com.
