On July 25, 2022, Steven Robert Linton went home to be with the Lord he loved. Steve leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and best friend, Dawn; daughter, Indiana Ahn (Sung); and two sons, Wayne Cummings (Veronica), and Andy Cummings (Taniea). Steve also had seven grandchildren, Sophia, Kari, Adrian, Amelia, Aria, Ellaina and Anneliese who will surely miss their Grandpa. Steve’s brother, Cooper Linton (Rosa), sisters, Sylvia Huffines and Gail Linton (Andrew); and his nieces and nephews will deeply miss their brother and uncle.
Steve was born on July 6, 1957, in Huntsville, Alabama, and was raised on the island of Chincoteague, Virginia. He attended Old Dominion University where he was awarded a BA degree in sociology. Throughout his time in college, Steve continued to develop a love and passion for music. He played guitar in and around southeastern Virginia. His joy of music was further fulfilled after he met and married his wife, Dawn. Steve and Dawn enjoyed playing music together in a variety of church gatherings and community venues. Most recently, Steve and Dawn were members of the Williamsburg Community Chapel Worship & Praise Team.
At an early age, Steve overcame a diagnosis of Hodgkin Lymphoma. Facing death at that time led to Steve’s gaining an eternal perspective that allowed him to recognize what is most important in life. This awareness was manifest in how he loved and engaged with others, and how he showed grace, compassion, and generosity to so many. As a result of his on-going experience with cancer, Steve and Dawn were instrumental in the development of the cancer support group at the Williamsburg Community Chapel. Steve had a heart to minister to those who faced the on-going challenges of cancer and to remind them of the hope God can give in overcoming the trials they may face.
Even as he invested himself in church and community ministry, Steve also enjoyed his many years in sales, culminating in his role as Regional Sales Manager for Hackworth Reprographics. Steve possessed a quiet strength that served him well in the highly competitive field of sales. He was a man of integrity, deep character, and a love for the Lord who saved him.
Steve’s relationship with Christ began a radical redemption in his heart and life. And even though he faced several challenges with cancer in particular, God, not cancer defined the quality of his life.
Not only did Steve love Jesus Christ, he also deeply loved his wife Dawn. They were married for 22 years and together they enjoyed hiking, biking, camping, and traveling both in the states and abroad. Discovering new places and sharing new adventures together brought a great deal of joy to the two of them. Being with family was very special as Steve and Dawn would intentionally make time to visit their children and extended family. Their home in Williamsburg became a welcome retreat for family and friends. Nobody was a stranger.
