For over 61 years, he shared an enduring marriage with his beloved wife, Cheryle, whose partnership brought him boundless happiness and purpose. Together, they raised two sons, Thomas and Matthew, who carry forward his legacy.
Born on May 30, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio, T. David lived a life defined by devotion—to his family, his faith, his friends, his profession, and his community. He earned both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in business administration from Xavier University. He spent his 40-year career in corporate finance and senior risk management working for several companies to include Westinghouse and Bank of America. He retired to Williamsburg in 2003. He was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church.
T. David will be remembered for his gentle spirit, compassion, sense of humor, and the generosity that seemed to permeate every aspect of his life. Above all, he cherished his wife Cheryle, his family, and the time he spent with his sons, their wives, grandchildren, and his four sisters.
He loved golf, birdwatching, travel, history, music, genealogy, and service to his community and church.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryle; sons, Thomas (Donna) and Matthew (Bradi); his grandchildren, Patrick, Bridgette, Meredith, and Shannon; and his siblings, Linda Phipps, Lois Shinkle, Judy Walker, and Bobbie Rue. His warmth, smile, and selflessness will long be cherished by all who were fortunate to know him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, located at 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA, on January 11, 2026, at 1:30 pm. The service will be livestreamed.
