Thomas J. Lindsay, 81, Born May 13, 1935 Beloved husband, father and grandfather, was called home to our Lord on Friday, February 24, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice, children Margie Thomas (Tom Thomas) Edison NJ, Paul (Susan Dermer) Mechanicsville, VA, Robert, Williamsburg, VA, grandchildren Bridget, Tyler, Brian, Ryan, Christina and Victoria, sister Anne Colofranson, Sewell, NJ. and predeceased by his brother John (Jack) Lindsay, Mantua, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bede R.C. Church, Friday, March 3 at 2:00 PM with burial in the Columbarium at the Church. A memorial service will be held in New Jersey, June 3, 2017, 10:15 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, Metuchen. Tom was a violinist in the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra for 35 years, and of the Dallas Symphony, concertmaster of the New Jersey Pops Orchestra, the Atlantic Symphonette, the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra, the Millennium Symphony Orchestra, Symphonicity, the FAME Festival Orchestra and first violinist of the Paganiniana and Berlin String Quartets. A passionate teacher and string clinician, he was a member of the applied music faculty of VCU, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Morris College. He taught Master Classes at numerous Universities throughout the US, including Yale University. Together with Alice, they founded the South Jersey Youth Orchestra, The International FAME Festival, The Cherry Hill Philharmonic and the Tidewater Intergenerational Orchestra (TIO). He served as president of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Board of Directors and Artistic Adviser to three conductors of the New York Youth Symphony at Carnegie Hall. His collaboration with Samuel Applebaum on “The Art and Science of String Performance” (pub. Alfred) made him the leading authority of the Applebaum String Method. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Ministry at St. Bede, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, Va,or the Loyola University Orchestra, attention, Dr. Jean Montes, 6363 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70118. The TIO concert, scheduled for March 5 WILL BE PERFORMED, as scheduled, at 1:00 PM in the Kaplan Parish Hall at St. Bede.
