He achieved two degrees of Medicine for Internist and Psychiatry, working for many years as a physician before retiring.
Umit enjoyed reading, watching TV, and traveling the world. He is survived by his wife, Julieta Ergin; niece, Mine Veral-Burk; and cousin, Sevki Figen and his son Alp Figen.
