William Thomas Flaherty

William Thomas Flaherty slipped his earthly bonds and entered glory on March 19th, 2019. He is survived by his wife of sixty three years, Joan O’Callaghan Flaherty, five daughters , Marie (John) Isaac, Catherine Perry, Madeleine (Laurence) Gottschalk, Barbara (Jim) Schroeder, Patrice (Greg) Tankersley, and one son, Michael William Flaherty, sixteen living grandchildren, James Perry, Alyson Perry, Elizabeth Isaac Patterson, Laura Isaac Jauregui, Jack Gottschalk, Rachel Gottschalk, Catie Gottschalk, Matthew Leonard, Rebecca Schroeder, Anna Flaherty, Bethany Flaherty Lenderink, Caitlyn Flaherty, Daniel Flaherty, Emma Flaherty, Meghan Tankersley and Morgan Tankersley, and seven great-grandchildren, Jack, Claire & Luke Perry, Thea Perry, Adeline Patterson, Ruby and Isaac Jauregui, and one brother Thomas Anthony Flaherty. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Cathryn Flaherty Duffy Cosgrove and a grandson, Michael Leonard.
Born February 15, 1931 in New York City to William Anthony Flaherty and Anna Pawelko Flaherty. He joined the U.S. Army after graduation from high school in New York and served honorably for six years and two months. He graduated from Pace Institute where he studied all forms of insurance, in which he subsequently made his life work. Before retiring in Williamsburg in 1994 he resided in Huntington, New York for thirty-one years. He served as a volunteer in the Ball Hawks in Kingsmill and in Grove Christian Mission in Williamsburg where he made many friends among the staff, volunteers and clients. He was a beloved member of the non-denominational Chapel at Kingsmill for twenty-four years. William’s great love of family and his keen sense of humor will live on through his family.
