Bernard passed away March 16, 2010, at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor. He was 81 years old. He was born March 29, 1928. He was the youngest of nine children. Moving to Williamston area where he graduated from High School in 1946. He served 2 ½ years in the U.S. Army, worked at Fisher Body leaving there in 1953. He started an electrical apprenticeship with I.B.E.W. Local 665 in Lansing, retiring in 1990. Bernard was preceded in death by his son, Andrew; parents, Clair and Evah (Cramer) Spalding; six brothers, and two sisters. Surviving is his wife Betty (Alchin) to whom he was married for 57 years; daughter, Deborah (Robert) Howlett of Grand Ledge; sons, Steven Spalding of Grandville and Timothy (Robin) Spalding of Williamston; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 19, 5-8 p.m. at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Middle St, Williamston. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 20, 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Alchin Farm Cemetery, Webberville. In lieu of flower contributions can be made to Hazel I.
