Carol Janet Hawkins was born to Jesse and Myrtle Hawkins on March 18, 1939 in Lansing, Michigan. In high school, Carol met Roger L. Carpenter of Haslett and later married. They started a family with a son, Alan and a daughter, Katrina. After a few years, they divorced. In 1964, Carol married Duane Brooks of Haslett who had a daughter, Martha. After several years of marriage, they were blessed with twins, Jessica and James. Carol worked as a homemaker, 4 H teacher, horticulturist and farmer.
In 1973 they moved to Mason, Michigan after purchasing a larger farm. She continued to raise her family and got a job at Kean's gift store. After the passing of her husband in 2010, she continued to work part-time, enjoyed scrapbooking, card making, Elvis impersonator concerts, and family reunions. With her radiant smile and joyful spirit, she created a positive attitude in those around her. She was like a second Mom to some people and a loving friend to others.
