Carol Ann Lycos

On July 17, 2026 Carol Ann (Hart) Lycos went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven. Carol reunites in heaven with her father Doran, her sister Bonnie (Hart) Carpenter, and her brother Rodney.

Carol was born in Lansing, MI on February 16, 1949 the second child to Doran and Marlowe (Dexter) Hart. She grew up in a very close knit family with four siblings - Bonnie, Dennis, Robert, and Rodney. She grew up on Sherwood Road in Williamston in the home her parents built in the 1950s. She attended the one room Branch School house through sixth grade before attending Williamston Community Schools. She received her Associates degree in nursing from Lansing Community College and then went on to earn her Bachelors degree from Saint Joseph College in Windham, Maine.

Carol worked as a registered nurse at the Greenlawn campus of Ingham Medical hospital for twenty-five years. She loved taking care of her patients and serving her community. After nursing, she went to work for Allstate Insurance Company for over ten years dealing primarily in medical claims. After Allstate, she found very specific employment as a medical advocate for those needing help navigating medical and health related claims through insurance companies. This was a very niche job that incorporated her extensive knowledge base of medicine and insurance. As one might imagine, she was highly skilled in this position and was loved and respected by her clients as someone who knew what had to happen and how to make it happen. She advocated and fought solely on the behalf of her clients, and perhaps most importantly - could be trusted - always.

Carol and her husband Ken first met while both working at the Kentucky Fried Chicken in Okemos around 1967. They soon began singing songs and traveling America and the world together and, quite literally . . . never stopped. After their marriage on August 17, 1968 Ken was soon drafted by the U.S.Army. They went to Kitzingen, Germany where she gave birth to their first son, Travis. The rest of the 1970s was spent working and building their family with the addition of Kristopher and Nicholas. Together Ken and Carol remodeled and sold their house in Okemos and by 1980 were building their home on Sherwood Road directly across from where she grew up. They remained on Sherwood until the spring of 2025 when they downsized to Williamston Lakes. Together in life and love for fifty-eight years they made many dreams come true as well as unforgettable memories.

Faith and family most accurately describes Carol’s life. She regularly attended Memorial Lutheran Church in Williamston. Her deep faith in Jesus and consistent study of the Holy Bible gave her confidence and peace when confronting the mysteries of life. Her faith and adherence to Christian virtues allowed her to find her greatest joy in being with her children and grandchildren. Her mind was always focused on family and God first. She was always thinking of special things she could do for or with her family: a favorite food to cook them on Thanksgiving, a special quilt to make them for graduation, time spent with them baking or just talking. Carol was awesome at being there. She was present in her moments with the children and grandchildren. She was laser focused on what they were doing. She went to all of the games and contests. If the refs made a call against her people, she always took the time to inform them that they were wrong. Carol always cared about her team first and foremost and nobody in this world was going to do wrong against her own. If the kids or grandkids were building something or bought a new car or toy or were working at a new job, she would always go visit to see what they were up to and give her support. She relished in their success and loved to see their accomplishments. She showed her children and grandchildren that the most important part of life is just being there for each other - a tradition her creations continue to carry on.

Her love and immortality in this world continue through her familial chain. She is survived by her husband Ken Lycos. She leaves behind her children Travis (Nicole) Lycos, Kris (Jennifer) Lycos, Nicholas (Brittany) Lycos and grandchildren Jessica, Kayson (Morgan), Elana (Ethan) Fulcher, Kolson, Tristen, Karson, Jenna, Maybelle, Doran, and Brayden.
