Dorothy was a graduate of Williamston High School and Asbury College in Lexington, KY, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Education. She taught Elementary School in Haslett, MI for 36 years.
Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother, who deeply cherished her family and others, but her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was devoted to education and instilled a love of learning in her students. Dorothy provided many unique learning opportunities such as the French Voyageur Encampment and in-depth studies at the Michigan History Museum galleries. She received the "Odyssey Award" which recognizes K-12 educators for outstanding teaching of state history and who excel at making Michigan history engaging and memorable. While history was her passion, Dorothy excelled in teaching all subjects.
Dorothy was truly a Christ follower who lived her faith out in front of so many people both inside and outside of the church. She was actively involved in church teaching Sunday school class and working in outreach and missions. Wherever Dorothy could be used she was willing to volunteer. Truly a gift from God to her local church and church family. No one really knew how old Dorothy was because she bridged the generation gap with her life and love for everyone she knew and that knew her.
Whether Dorothy was teaching in a public school or a Sunday school, her classroom was a place of growth, respect, and learning.
She saw the potential in everyone and helped them realize it.
Everyone she met was family.
