

Edward R. Sweeney passed from this life on July 28, 2015. He was born on June 17, 1927 in Williamston, Michigan to Louis B. and Pearl V. Sweeney who both preceded him in death. Ed graduated from Williamston High School in 1947 after serving in the Navy in World War II. He served in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier USS Farrshau Bay and later served several years in the Naval Reserve Center in Lansing. He received an honorable discharge for his service and was a proud member of the local American Legion Post 296. Ed was very proud of his community. He was a member on the Williamston Fire Department for more than 30 years, and during that time he was a member of the Ambulance Crew. He was a coach in the Red Cedar Recreation Program for many years working with young people. After his own children had graduated from High School he volunteered at the High School Sports Program and continued until his grandsons graduated. Ed love to watch sports, especially when his grandchildren were playing, and he was a great fan of MSU Sports. He also loved to play golf until his own health no longer let him. He retired from the Ingham County Road Commission after 40 years of service. He was a member of West Locke Wesleyan Church where he took an active part and prepared for eternity. His family was the love and joy of his life. He is survived by his wife, Bobbi of 61 years; his son, David (Debbie) Sweeney, daughter, Debi (Scott) Simmons, both of Williamston; his Fab 7 grandchildren, Nick, Andy, and Brad Simmons, Katie Sweeney-Bartolacci, Sara, Emily, and Hannah Sweeney; great grandchildren, Addison Simmons, Scott Lee Simmons, and Ryder Simmons. A Memorial Service Celebrating Ed’s Life will take place at 12:00 Noon Saturday, August 1, 2015 at West Locke Wesleyan Church, 2652 Haslett Rd. Williamston, MI 48895 with the family receiving friends and visitors on hour prior at the church. Those wishing to may make contributions in Ed’s name to the church or to a charity of one’s choice.
