

George Leroy Burkitt passed away on June 15, 2025, at the age of 86. George was born on March 7, 1939, to Sarah Elaine (Mabery) Burkitt and Melvin Harry Burkitt in Cass City, Michigan. George lived a life full of kindness, passion, humor, and an unwavering love for family and friends.
George loved to travel and visited many places in the United States and around the world with his wife of thirty-five years, Sandy. They enjoyed hosting many great family gatherings, especially at Christmas and the annual outdoor summer party. He often said that his proudest accomplishment was having four beautiful children and loved that Sandy shared her two sons with him.
George raised animals for 4H and worked on farms around his home in North Branch, Michigan to earn money to attend college. He graduated from Michigan State University with honors in 1962 and began his career as a Certified Public Accountant with Ernst and Ernst in Lansing, Michigan. He was an accomplished CPA, financial advisor, and real estate investor throughout his career.
George leaves behind his wife, Sandra (Blue) Burkitt, Children, Suzette Burkitt-Wesolek (Chuck), Yvette Tombaugh (Scott), Kevin Burkitt (Kyunghee), Steven Burkitt (Cathleen), step-sons, Bill Woodbury (Jody) and Gary Woodbury. Grandchildren, Marie Karns (John), Nicholas Wesolek (Amanda), Sarah Wesolek Thornton, Charles Wesolek, Jr. (Gabrielle), Ryan Scott (Hailey), Sean Scott (Whitney), Brynne Friel (Logan), Hannah Tombaugh (Tyler), Yei-Jee Burkitt (Jacob), Kee-Ri Burkitt, Joshua Burkitt (Amanda), Natasha Hoxie (Arden), Christopher Woodbury (Brandi), Jonathan Woodbury (Caroline), Lesley Mayer (Jeff), Peyton Woodbury, Blake (Natasha) Young, Joshua Young, and thirty-six great grandchildren. Sister, Bonnie Brooks, brother in law and sister-in-law, Jim and Pam Blue, and many close nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all who will miss him deeply.
George is predeceased by his father and mother, Melvin and Sarah Burkitt, and four infant sisters.
