George A. Plummer Jr. passed away peacefully in his home on November 29, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was 77 years old. George was born in Hamtramck on October 23, 1944. He graduated from Pontiac Northern High School in Pontiac, Michigan. He married the love of his life and soul mate, Mary Catherine Gray on November 09, 1963.
George received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Michigan State University. Later in life he received a master’s degree in Theology. He was Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and a life and endowment member of the NRA. He was a Hunter Safety Instructor, a Lay Eucharistic Minister with St. Mary Catholic Church in Williamston and he also tried his hand as a beekeeper, until the bears took over.
George spent 33 years as a Police Officer at MSU, then spent 5 years as a truck driver for NTB and Landstar. He loved his place called 4-B Ranch in northern Michigan and spent many years hunting, fishing, camping, driving out East with his family and friends. His family was very important to him, and his friends always said, “George has a good, kind heart”.
George is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Karen (Pete) Fink of Grand Ledge, Michigan, George (Sarah) Plummer of Rives Junction, Michigan, and John (Ann) Plummer of Lima, Ohio; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Williamston Chapel with the Rosary prayed at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church in Williamston on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 11:00 am with a viewing at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, George had requested donations to be made to St. Mary Catholic Church. There will be a Celebration of Life in Vanderbilt, Michigan in the Spring of 2022.
