I spent many hours sitting under the summer trees with Grace, my Mom, and the other ladies at Home Away From Home. She loved the feeling of the sun in her face and the sound of the breeze in the rustling maple leaves. We all talked about the memories of long lives, of the joys and cares of raising children, of the changes of the world, of the quiet joys of a sunny day.
I also enjoyed talking with her about whatever book she happened to be reading. She had a dry sense of humor about the inprobabilities in novels, but she did enjoy the drama.
Grace enjoyed singing Christmas songs with me, Mom, and the other ladies while my husband played the piano. She made a point of thanking him very sincerely for playing. She was such a gracious lady.
One afternoon only a few months ago, she joined me, Mom, and my husband at the dining room table for tea and a nice long talk about teenage years and the impossibility of understanding what life is likely to bring.
Grace enriched my life by her friendship and experiences, and I remember her with great fondness.
