Helen Louise Robinson was born June 21st, 1925. She was born to Orablle and Merle Halsey. After graduating from Tecumseh High School, she became a real life Rosie the Riveter by building anti-aircraft shells for the World War II was effort. After the war, she met the love of her life, Leonard Merle Robinson. They would spend over 78 years together and 74 of those being married.
Helen had a fantastic life and was extremely involved in her hobbies. Those included being Secretary and Treasurer of her sorority for over 40 years. Helen also loved to paint ceramics and everyone in the family has something she painted over the years. She was also an avid baker. Her sons and grandsons would argue she made the greatest cookies of all time.
She loved to walk and well into her 80s, she drove to the Williamston track to walk 2 to 3 miles a day. She also loved to read romance novels. Helen was also an avid Detroit Tigers and Michigan football fan. One of her favorite things however was Christmas. There was no one who did Christmas or loved it like she did. Their house won awards for best decorated and inside was even more delightful. She loved to give gifts to everyone, bake dozens of different cookies, her world famous Maimie Eisenhower fudge, and some of the best pies.
However, Helen's greatest achievement was being a mother, Grandmother, and great grandmother. Leonard and Helen had four sons Greg (Lenore), Mike (Connie), Dan (Kathy), and Scott (Lori). They also had 9 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. Helen loved being a mom and Grandma. She loved to spoil her grandkids and no one could leave the house without eating something, even if you weren't hungry. She adored each and every child and grandchild, whether you were blood related, marriage, step, or not related at all. That was the amazing thing about Helen, she was welcoming to anyone. Although she was the only one more stubborn than Len, she had a heart of gold and a kind soul. Some of her grandsons said she was the perfect definition of a grandma.
Helen is preceded in death by the love of her life Leonard, oldest son Greg, and grandson Heath. Donations in honor of Helen can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Ingham County Animal Shelter. Funeral and visitation is Thursday August 19th, 2021 at the Williamston Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home.
