Helen V. Woodrel, 97, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2018 in Haslett, Michigan. Helen was born March 20, 1921 to J.J. and Sally (McDonald) Riley in Perry County, Tennessee and moved to Michigan in 1940 with her former husband Albert Woodrel. Helen worked at the REO Motor Company in Lansing for many years. She loved her family, enjoyed golf, bowling, and writing, and was proud of her work as a published author. She was a strong woman who never hesitated to “Tell It Like It Is”.
She was preceded in death by her parents J.J and Sally, brothers Karl and James Earl, and sister Edith.
Her memory will be cherished by her son, Tony (Chris Nazarchuk) Woodrel; grandchildren, Michael (Kitt) Woodrel, Michelle (Nick) Lycos; great-grandchildren, Blake and Jace Woodrel, Maybelle and Doran Lycos; sisters, Nobie Davis and Evelyn Hodges; former daughter-in-law, Pat Woodrel; and all of the loving staff of Home Sweet Home where she spent the last 7 years.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 6:00pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Williamston Chapel, 205 E. Middle St., Williamston. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in New Haven Cemetery in Helen’s hometown of Ridgely, Tennessee.
